A new year tends to bring new trends, especially in the ever changing digital world. To stay relevant in a digital world, businesses need to stay on top of the trends. Here are three to adopt right now:
1. Mobile, mobile, mobile
The use of mobile devices vs. a desktop computer is already growing at an incredible rate. In 2015, Google declared that mobile searches beat out desktop searches. Whoa. This overtaking of desktop usage is expected to continue to grow rapidly in 2016. Here’s the deal: mobile isn’t going away, so the bottom line as a business owner is to make sure your digital presence is mobile savvy. Is your website easily accessible from a mobile device? Can people find your business from their mobile devices on local listings like Google Places, Bing Places and Yelp? Is the available info current and relevant? Take an honest look at your digital presence. If you answered “no” to either of these questions, you are likely losing money…and lots of it.
2. Videos will dominate
Social media channels have embraced video and allows for video content to be easily shared with you community. While video itself is nothing new and has been used on channels like YouTube forever, Facebook, Twitter and others now want users to create short video content to help further connect with their communities. So you are thinking “Video? No way! Too hard!” Wrong! Your video content doesn’t need to be professionally shot and produced. You don’t need fancy equipment either. Grab your smartphone and a buddy, and spend a few minutes talking about one of your favorite products you sell. Post it on your social media channels and repeat the process regularly. One tip: don’t be too salesy. Be real and be you. Your community can connect with you much better when you are authentic and not trying to cram your products down their throats.
3. Social Media Ads
If you haven’t already started paying for ads on your social media channels, get ready to. If you want your content to be seen, it is unfortunately becoming more and more necessary to pay the piper. Ads or sponsored posts on channels like Facebook and Twitter will
further the reach of your messaging. While it may be annoying to have to pay for exposure that used to be free, there is an upside. The good news – you do not need to have a huge budget to have effective campaigns. You can also dial in your target market pretty well, so you can minimize unqualified clicks that just end up costing you money. Advertising on your social media channels can also be more cost effective than pay per click ads on Google or other search engines.
